Been through this process many times, always a smooth process and professional!
I recently had a colonoscopy at this facility, far from my first, but the first one here with Dr. Gurm. It was a horrible experience. I woke up from the procedure to discover I had aspirated during it. The prep was unlike any I had before where I was asked to purchase Gatorade, Miralax, and magnesium citrate. I followed the prep directions exactly, including when to stop meds and eating, drinking, and when I arrived, I told them I felt very full of fluid still. The anesthesiologist said he had a push he could give that would help, but it didn't. I woke up soaked on my left side which I had been lying on and my throat was stuck closed and was either burned from acid or ripped when I opened it. My lungs were bubbly with fluid and I felt like I couldn't breathe and was starting to panic. This has never happened to me before, during, or after any procedure I've had. The doctor never came by to talk with me after the procedure, only the anesthesiologist who explained that I aspirated and should breathe deeply to unstick my lungs. I left the facility feeling feverish and had chills most of the day. It's been 2 days, it still hurts to swallow, and I still don't feel well. Update: A nurse called 3 days after the procedure. 4 days later, it is still painful to take a deep breath and I had bloodwork today with elevated CRP 32.7 and ESR 34. I did not feel well cared for and will never go back. (Including a photo of my damaged throat 36 hours after the procedure)
I have had about 10 colonoscopy so far. Premier endoscopy has been by far the best experience I’ve had yet.
The Salem Laser & Surgery Center was welcoming, and professional. The nurse, anesthesiologist, and the doctor were warm, reassuring creating a sense of safety in the procedure. Thank you-
